About this activity

There are some state parks which are all about recreation - picnic areas, landscaped gardens, bandstands...not Curt Gowdy State Park! This very nature based state park really takes you back into nature, right in the foothills of the Laramie Mountains.

There are beautiful attractions in the park, with seven sections of rich landscapes, with unique fauna and flora. Three reservoirs adorn the park - North Crow, Crystal and Granite - and there are some great fishing spots to spend a few hours relaxing with the family.

Granite reservoir offers great rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, and this reservoir too also offers a great amount of space for water sports.

The smallest of the three, Crystal, has a great shoreline for fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon. You can also enjoy some boating (with a 15 horsepower limit) whilst at Crystal. The North Crow reservoir has an unimproved fishing area, and doesn't have any picnic tables, comfort stations or even a water supply, so your day to day use here is very natural.

Hiking is a popular activity to do with the family at Curt Gowdy State Park - so don't forget your comfortable walking shoes! If you feel like you want to extend your day out to a bit longer, then there are a limited number of reservable campsite, as well as a campground next to a free public horse corral for those who want to camp with their horses!

For something a little different, Hynds Lodge is an area where there is plenty of wildlife and birds, so those who love some bird or wildlife spotting, this is your area!

Spending the day with the family out in nature is a great choice for your family day out - and Curt Gowdy State Park is a fun Wyoming option!
