The Conway Scenic Railroad is a great and fun railroad to go too. I've been a railroad fan all my life and I've going here since I was 3 years old, I already known one employe who works there, Paul Hallet. When I'm there I alway's enjoy seeing my favorite engine Steam Locomotive #7470. Because I'm a fan of steam locomotives. If you folks want to see #7470, here are the months that they run it, they run it in mid September for Railfan's Weekend and to mid October for fall seasons, they also run it again for Steam in the Snow in January. But unfortunately...Read More

I appreciate what the Railroad Company is trying to do, and I can understand the allure of an old fashion train ride. But, the views were far from my definition of “scenic”. I had high expectations spending $96 for four tickets for the short (less expensive) ride. Maybe it was the time of year (July), but the majority of the views were trees… not distant trees, but those within 50 feet of the train. Some of the key attractions pointed out were horse rides, a local pizza establishment (“best pizza in town”), a small house for sale, and...Read More

I enjoy taking the CSR every once in a while just for the fun of it. Your doggie can ride with you if you ride in the open car at the back. They love it! It's delightful to just sit back and enjoy the scenery, but it gets crazy busy in the fall - of course!

This is a wonderful heritage railroad and well worth the price when you consider the fare goes toward maintaining the equipment. I don't understand other reviewers complaints. The views are great at times, but average for most of the trip. That's what you should expect from a train. The staff was also very friendly.

Don't waste your time or money. Sure the trains look cool, but this is just a ride through the town. There are no views..and don't do the dinner car..the food was awful. Save your money for the train the takes you up to Mt.Washington it has the best views!!!

But unfortunately to let you know this year in July 2014, #7470 will be out of service due to an inspection and overhaul is what I heard. It should be back in service sometime in 2016. The Conway Scenic is a fun railroad to go too and it's perfect for all ages for young ones and grown ups. They also have a model train building there too when they run all the little train sets. You folks will love this railroad, and don't forget to bring you little ones too for the Day Out with Thomas event that happens in July.

I had high expectations spending $96 for four tickets for the short (less expensive) ride. Maybe it was the time of year (July), but the majority of the views were trees… not distant trees, but those within 50 feet of the train. Some of the key attractions pointed out were horse rides, a local pizza establishment (“best pizza in town”), a small house for sale, and some streams and rivers. A positive note is that we did learn about “Diana’s Baths” on the train ride that we found to be worthwhile.
The outbound train was relative relaxing, as we were further back in one of the cars. But when the train switched (to reverse direction, the main engine switches from front to rear to reverse direction), the main engine was closer to where we were sitting and the trains air horn is deafeningly loud. Honestly, there was a point toward the end where I would rather been walking. I had much higher hopes for $96.
It pains me to say it, but I do not recommend the ride that I went on (the shorter version that went north). Maybe the longer southbound trip is better… and is in fact “scenic”, I hope it is!
