Where are we going today?

Have you ever wanted to see a polar bear up close?  Here it can swim above your head!

At the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium you can not only encounter over 675 species of animals from around the globe, but you can visit the many exhibitions and rides, and even search for a dinosaur! (If you find him, say hi from us!)

The variety of animals to experience is vast - iconic bald eagles, the endangered black rhino, the mischievous sun bear...the list is extensive but allows children to really understand the variety of beautiful creatures we have in this world - what makes them special and why we need to look after them, for both their future and ours.

On the west side of the zoo you can experience an authentic 1914 carousel complete with 52 original horses, or take a relaxing journey on the Bob Evans Express Train.

There are also very special experiences for your whole family, included twilight tours where you see a whole new range of cheeky animals, the Animal Encounters Village where you can see animals such as cheetahs and kangaroos up close on stage (you could even pat a snake!) and great for toddlers is the Little Explorers Base Camp where these little rangers can learn about the animals,  and engage and explore through play.  These occur Tuesdays and Thursday anytime between 10am - 12pm so make sure you ask about times.

Teachers corner

There are a number of educational classes available at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. These can be a great alternative to the classroom to really engage children with a hands on approach. These classes are suitable for preschoolers, field trips, summer camps, scouts, and volunteers. There are also great programs for career exploration if you feel zoos and animals are something you would like to make a career out of. .

I'm Hungry!

Is it your feeding time too!? There are a variety of food outlets across the zoos - from snack carts, delis and sandwiches, funnel cakes, burgers, sweet treats, grills and pizzas. .

Healthy Eating!

The village coffee and deli is a great healthy option providing salads and wraps. Yum!.

Any Top Tips?

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is quite vast and covers a large area so allow a few hours to see the entire Zoo. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Don't forget the sunscreen!.

Doing our bit

The zoo has very high standards when it comes to conservation. They provide full listings of endangered fish species to ensure their menus are sustainable, and they supply information on palm oil to raise awareness on its origins. They also donate over $1million per year to over 70 conservation programs worldwide. .

Need a little extra help?

Every building in the zoo is wheelchair accessible, and just visit any guest relations area for more information. .

Baby Facilities

Not only are family restrooms available, but all other restroom areas throughout the grounds are all are equipped with changing areas. .

Can I get one of those?

Did you find that dinosaur because if you did you might need a prize! The zoo features three gift shops and a number of gifts carts dotted around the grounds. At these you can purchase everything from clothes to stuffed animals..

    Very Nice!
The Zoo is well maintained and clean. Assistants were very helpful and cooperative too.
I specially liked the animal safari event (don't miss this one). It was well choreographed and super fun.
I didn't know zoos could be fun too.

New Heart of Africa area was very cool. Definitely a redefinition of the traditional zoo and well worth the cost of admission on its own. Also, if the price concerns you, look into membership. We would have paid $38 for 2 adult entry and parking and decided to do the individual plus one membership for $79. Basically we have to go one more time to pay for a year long membership. That's a great deal.

Definitely a 5-star review! Clean and organized, you can easily spend the entire day and night there. You're also just close enough to get a great look, but never in danger.

    Food isn't bad either.

Maybe next time we'll see Jack Hanna!
