About this activity

Maine has a fascinating history, and often it's fun to visit a museum that covers a subject that you might not think twice about. A great example is the Cole Land Transportation Museum - we use transport every day in our lives, but did you ever think about the history of it? Now you can!

The Cole Lane Transportation Museum actually collects, preserves, and displays a great cross section of land equipment from years gone by, to ensure it's preserved into the future.

Did you know that the museum has around 200 vehicles that you can check out? That's a lot of museum to cover! To build the stories behind the machines, there are over 2000 photos that capture the early life of the Maine communities. A great history lesson for the family!

Kids can learn what life on the farm would have been like, and explore some of the machines that help the farmers with their business. Nee aww nee aww - must be the sound of the local fire engines too! How different do those fire engines look from the ones you know today?

Love wheels? Then the motorcycle and bicycle section might be for you! The Cole Land Transportation Museum has a great collection of these two wheeled vehicles, or you can check out something a little more unusual in the Snowplow Alley exhibit!

A highlight of the museum if the 1878 Caboose that was actually used on the Western Maryland Railroad. Choo choo - all aboard!

History is all around you at this Maine museum, and if you LOVE engines, wheels, and motors then you might just want to check out this walk down transportation history lane!

Kids - start those engines!
