Where are we going today?

Everything's cooler on the ice! Chaparral Ice are a super cool skate rink in Northcross Mall where the whole family can join in with the daily public skating sessions!

Ice skating is a lot of fun, and great exercise for kids! It's also a great way for the them develop their balance, coordination, flexibility, and social skills!

Get the whole family out on the ice! Whether you're a beginner or advanced, you are more than welcome. Beginners, no need to be nervous because you will be surrounded by kids of your same experience level, holding onto those edges finding their feet!

The skate sessions last from 3 hours to 5 hours depending on the day, and how's this - kids under 5 get in free on weekdays with a paid admission! Pretty cool huh!?

If you find that the kids have taken a shine to the ice, they can attend some of their skate classes which are perfect for all ages, both beginners and advanced. They have classes for 3-5 year olds, and classes for 6 and up so you know that will learning with kids their own age, where they can be sure to learn at their own pace.

What's even more cool - for those 6 and up, they can take advantage of the free 30 minute introductory class so they can see if it's something they will like before actually taking part in the lessons themselves.

For kids aged 6 - 14 they can attend summer camps! There are two camp options, one is a general fun activity filled day camp, and the other is a skating training camp for those who might be a bit more serious about improving their techniques.

And we know you are thinking it - yes they do birthday parties! Kids get a 30 minute beginner skate group lesson before enjoying 2 hours of fun skate time so even those who have never set a skate on the ice can feel like they can get a handle on it before play time begins.

If your kids are keen to make new friends, skating certainly is a great way to break the ice! (Sorry, we couldn't resist!)

Staff are always friendly, especially Mindy. The rink is nice and clean (who care about stickers on the chairs, kinda like pennies in the fountain), and my kid and her friends have always enjoyed skating there. As for lessons, some instructors are clearly better than others. My kid took group lessons there from basic 1 to prelim, and we had no issue. Sometimes it does get crowded during public skating time, no fault of CI, it is just a popular rink (and only one) around.

Glad there is some ice in Austin. Wish there was another rink. It's fun to watch the talented skaters. It can get very busy, so my wife and I like to go early during the week. Thanks to the staff for being helpful!

Trying to figure out when the public skate time is. The website is not updated and I can't reach anyone on the phone (tried for a long time). Poor customer service :

As a northerner this place was a breath of fresh, freezing air. I had no clue ice skating was so popular in the South. I have been here a couple times and it was packed every time. The staff was fairly helpful and kind. It's a pretty nice place, and they have a faux fireplace to warm up next to after skating. I'd recommend bringing your own skates though because the ones they allow for public use are disasters waiting to happen. The place has a cool vibe with all the UT hockey team stuff hanging from the walls. If you like skating, give it a try.
