Where are we going today?

The Carson National Forest is one of five National Forests in New Mexico. The National Forests are Americas Great outdoors, here to serve the American people at work and play! Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.5 million acres covered by the Carson National Forest. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico. Our objective is to maintain that natural beauty.

Beautiful place to visit. Many lovely places to camp. I wanted to summit Mount Wheeler (highest point in NM) so stayed closer to the trail; several campgrounds to choose from on 150 upto Taos Ski Valley. Showers available @ a private campground for $5 Address: River Ranch ,1501 West Main, Red River, NM 87558 .
Hike upto the Summit was breathtaking...route is simple:
Go to the Bavarian Restaurant (was not impressed by the food at all) head to the trailhead for Williams lake close to the ski lifts>>youll hit trail no: 67 i.e. Wheeler Peak Summit...Read More

Hike upto the Summit was breathtaking...route is simple:
Go to the Bavarian Restaurant (was not impressed by the food at all) head to the trailhead for Williams lake close to the ski lifts>>youll hit trail no: 67 i.e. Wheeler Peak Summit Trail, but dont forget to enjoy the Williams lake just a little ahead>>eventually yes 'EVENTUALLY' youll hit trail # 90 by this time the peak is really obvious, toward the Right. Just a friendly reminder Im a Texan so elevation was a huge suprise even though was in the campground the previous afternoon, so taking it slow was the key, also take a light jacket preferably waterproof cause it gets really cold up there and late afternoon thundershowers occur almost everyday.
Also other places near by worth chekcing out are the World heritage site 'Taos Pueblo', the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and the hot spring resort 'Ojo Caliente'.

Humble request to all fellow hikers/backpackers pick up trash as you see it and dump it at the end of the trails/any trash cans please. Everything counts :)
