Directions

The California State Railroad Museum is located at the corner of Second and "I" Streets in Old Sacramento. A small number of limited-term, metered parking spaces are available on the streets of Old Sacramento. However, these spaces are not suitable for guests visiting longer than 90 minutes. All-day parking is available in the large public garage at the I Street entrance to Old Sacramento, for a nominal fee.

Located in Old Sacramento, the California State Railroad Museum is a complex of historic facilities and unique attractions. Widely regarded as North America's most popular railroad museum, there is something here for everyone!

There are regularly varying exhibits covering a wide range with railways as a connecting theme. Guided tours of both the exhibit and railway spaces are available.

Non-stop, roundtrip shuttle service is available to and from the California State Railroad Museum and the Sacramento Zoo.

Guided tours and interpretive film screenings are offered daily. Many other opportunities abound at the Museum, including related historical attractions within Old Sacramento State Historic Park..

Need a little extra help?

Wherever possible, access to exhibits is facilitated by wheelchair lifts, two-way video communication systems, and our friendly staff. Certain exhibits and programs have limited accessibility, due to factors such as narrow, historic stairways and door openings on railroad passenger cars. .

    We visited the museum today and my kids 5 and 9 loved it. you could spend half a day at the museum. there is a 1/2 hr show at the west theatre in the museum and there is a free tour which offers more information on the railway - good for older kids and adults.

    Great layout, something for everyone. Awesome voluteers helpful and always willing to give more info. Littlest one had room to run too. Well done and definitely recommend. Great shops and eateries within walking distance.
