This is one of the best experiences and values in the city. This has great night time programs for young adults with music and drinks. During the daytime this museum showcases the diversity of the whole Bay Area. You get to explore ecology through the wonderful ECO-dome (biosphere). The planetarium is fabulous and you get to see the pendulum. Overall great experience and wonderful for both kids and adults. Buy the year long membership for your best value.

The Academy of sciences has an amazing aquarium complex that takes a long time to explore and see completely. The layout can be a bit confusing at first, but the high quality exhibits and the signage help. I really like their super small mini aquarium showcasing one tiny type of shrimp or crab, they are very detailed and neat.Their biosphere/dome is really cool too, it has a lot to see and spend time in. It’s a one way trip: when you get in, you look at things, walk to the top, and take an elevator to exit into the aquarium.I expected more hands-on things but I guess that’s for the Exploratorium.Their planetarium, while limited in seats (get a pass as soon as you arrive!) is cool. I went for the 21+ Thursday night events, which are great, and with a theme, but get very very crowded.

UPDATING TO 5 stars!!!Got to go here for a city experts event… it was amazing! We got to listen to the tank diver talk about the awesome reef tank, and the older lady docent was awesome about telling us about all the fish and the alligators. Now that I’m expecting I can’t wait to take my daughter here to watch all the fish swim by in the tanks, then travel to african savanna and see the zebrasPrevious:Ok so we all go here on field trips as kids and that’s a memory that we hold dear. So you can imagine my surprise as an adult when I came here for one of their nightlife events and the whole inside was changed. It was really disorienting, but I do have to say they new design was still really awesome.HOWEVER, once I got acclimated to the changes, I actually had a pretty good time. I took glass with me and my favorite part was the tide pools. The staff were awesome and let me record them talking about the starfish. It made my night really special!!Definitely checkout the nightlife events!!! Fish, dancing, & fun how can you go wrong???

I dined there last night for the first time and were very happy with the food and the service! He loved the Cioppino with lots of Maine lobster / shrimp / mussels / clams / fish calamari / scallops and shellfish vegetable broth! I loved my Chilean Sea Bass and we both love our Field Greens Salad! We’ll be back!

This place is amazing and one of the most impressive places to take a brainy date to. They have these Night-Life events that take place every Thursday and the theme is basically, science meets pop culture, meets a ginger tonic. It is incredibly fun and very hipster approved in my opinion. The drinks are not cheap of course, but the entrance tickets are at only $12 per person. They even have live-ostrich babies! If you can’t win date of the year here then you’re standing in the wrong museum. OH! and check out the starlight from the living roof exhibit, and get there early to catch the planetarium as it fills up in an instant.
