About this activity

If you love the idea of seeing some of Montana’s beautiful wildlife up close in person, then you might want to visit the Blaine County Wildlife Museum! There are a number of exhibits where kids can come face to face with beautiful deer, hissing snakes and even grizzlies. But don’t worry, they’re not alive, so there’s no danger!

The exhibits at Blaine County Wildlife Museum feature impressive taxidermy, that allows kids to see animals in realistic habitats, and with their very eyes.

The Peaks To Plains exhibit comes alive with a mural that extends about 88ft in length. Kids will actually feel they are with the serene deer, the cheeky mountain goats, or the bighorn sheep. Keep an eye out for the little creatures too!

The Wetlands exhibits takes place in the foothills of the Bear Paw Mountains. Here, you can witness a spring scene, with ten species of ducks, fish, and Canada geese. There is even a beaver dam with a mother and four young.

The Buffalo Jump is probably more suited to the older kids, as it’s here they can see the story of a herd of buffalo approaching a cliff, and the tradition of the Native American culture to herd them off the edge.

Want to see an impressive grizzly bear? The Moose Grizzly Encounter can do just that, with it’s typical western Montana scene of this chance encounter.

The Swift Fox exhibit showcases the once plentiful swift fox, that became endangered. Kids can see what does on at night in the Nocturnal exhibit, as well as the species of wildlife that live in the foothills, including the adorable prairie dog.

A fascinating way to see real animals up close, that are native to the state.
