Where are we going today?

If you want to experience a safari, you don't have to head all the way over to Africa to do so! You just have to head to Alvin!

The Bayou Wildlife Zoo is an impressive, open range animal zoo, that features wildlife from 19 countries all across the globe! There are species from Australia, and Asia, the Americas, and of course, Africa. After alll, we're about to go on a safari!

The Bayou Wildlife Zoo will send you on a safari-like adventure throughout the 80 acres of habitat. An experienced guide will be with you the whole time, so as you travel through the prairies and woods, you can hear fascinating facts about all of the animals you're seeing!

The trams that you will be traveling on are specially made, so you can really see everything that the zoo has for you - and it stops you from having to navigate the park on foot!

The safari rides last for around 45 minutes, and is perfect for families and kids who want a fun and unique animal experience. There are different areas to the park, so across your family day out you can get to know all of them! All of the habitats are suited to the animals that live there, and are made as close as possible to what they would be used to in the wild.

If THAT wasn't enough, Bayou Wildlife Zoo also have THREE monkey islands, as well as alligator points. Pretty cool!

Are you ready for a safari adventure without leaving Texas? Yee Haw!

This place is amazing. 1000 times better than the zoo. It smells like a safari park or any other large park where animals run free. We go here once a year and our kids love it. I have also had two birthday parties here. We bring friends and they love it. If you want spotless, clean, and animals that have just been bathed, then this is not the place for you. The owners take care of the animals very well and everyone is friendly.

This park is not for everyone. If you are expecting a Disney level experience, where the vehicles and facilities are in perfect shape then this place is not your cup of tea. This is more like going to visit an old farm. the jeeps are run-down, the fences are repaired often...and with different wire. in short, it doesn't look professional. That said - it works to your advantage since a very professional place probably wouldn't let you get close to the animals due to insurance issues so such. So you (your kids) get to see wildlife (exotic and...Read More

This could be such a nice place!!! Unfortunately, I do not think they can afford the place! Several animals but, especially, the petting zoo animals, seem sick! and not well taken care of. Some of the goats have growths on their necks, one of the pigs have infected eyes, could hardly see. Rats were coming out to "play" with the kiddos and the place stunk!!! not a normal animal stink, MUCH, MUCH worst!!!!! The birds were dirty (e.g. Ostriches). The deer walking around in the barn looked pitiful. They also do not have any credit card use in the place!...Read More

That said - it works to your advantage since a very professional place probably wouldn't let you get close to the animals due to insurance issues so such. So you (your kids) get to see wildlife (exotic and domestic) up-close. They can get close enough to feed them, pet them, and pictures can be awesome since you can get so close. You view the park from a wagon pulled behind a jeep. This is like a hayride for kids so lots of fun. The driver also has some information about the animals along the way. I would say the target age group is 5 to 12 for the greatest levels of enjoyment. Other reviews stated they had seen sick animals. I did not witness sick animals, but there was a deer with a plastic chair stuck on its head. The pony ride is very short, and sadly they will not allow a second ride even if there is nobody else there. I have no idea how this rule got into place since the rest of the park seems very laid-back. So the pony ride aspect of the experience is rather bizarre if you ask me. There are many animals to see, and the ride/tour is about an hour, so plan on 2 or 3 hrs at the park to enjoy all of it. We made a morning of it, and had a good time.

I'd love to see this place revamped. It is an awesome and much needed place but, seeing the animals not taken care of is painful. I will not be going back, until I hear they are doing better. Unfortunately, I'm afraid, this place won't be around much longer.
