Where are we going today?

Henry Flagler's railroad to Key West turned the remote island of Bahia Honda Key into a tropical destination. Today, the island is home to one of Florida's southernmost state parks, known for beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets, and excellent snorkeling. Visitors can picnic on the beach and take a swim, or simply relax and enjoy the balmy sea breezes that caress the shores year-round. Anglers can fish from shore or bring a boat and launch at the boat ramp. The park's concession rents kayaks and snorkeling gear and offers boat trips to the reef for snorkeling excursions. Bahia Honda is an excellent place to see wading birds and shorebirds. The nature center can introduce nature lovers to the island's unique plants and animals.

One of the best state parks in Florida. While the Florida Keys are beautiful, they are not known for particularly good beaches. Bahia Honda is the exception, with what is probably the top beach in The Keys, wonderful nature trails, options for water expiditions, snorkeling, and more. Don't forget the far side of the island on the other side of the beautiful old bridge, it offers shallow water wading in calm water with lots of sea life to see. Stunning sunsets. One of our favorite places to take our RV, but plan way ahead since reservations...Read More

OK. Barely. Park had a faintly bad smell upon entering. The beach is tiny and steep, and covered with copious amounts of seaweed, which isn't raked since our is a state park. So, sunbathers will want to find something else. Swimmers too. The sandbar is pretty and nice for sitting and wading. But there aren't any waves here, so if you enjoy playing in the surf stick to South Beach. Overall... Overrated.

The best beach on the keys, the park staff was great. There are facilities for the beaches, bathrooms and changing rooms. Also there is a nice gift shop and place to rent beach umbrellas, chairs and snorkeling gear. It was 9 dollars for us both to get in. Worth every penny to swim in the most beautiful clear warm water.

Upon entering the park we were confronted with the smell of rotten eggs. It was so strong that it permeated the interior of our car in spite of the fact that the windows were up, and the AC was on. The beach was covered with decaying seaweed that was mixed with plastic trash strewn along the high tide line. We had planned to camp in the park for two nights, but after the first night we decided to leave because of the conditions.
The park did not meet our expectations based on the brochure. The beaches were small, and dirty overall, and definitely...Read More

The park did not meet our expectations based on the brochure. The beaches were small, and dirty overall, and definitely not worth the price of a campsite. We will not camp here again
