Did you know that is was actually a group of women back in 1929 who created the first garden club in Amarillo? They actually wanted to prove that gardening was actually possible in the high plains of Texas...not the best environment to create lush gardens in!
But, these gardens eventually became the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, and lucky for you they did because now you can experience some amazing nature, programs and concerts in them!
If you're interested in gardening itself, the Amarillo Botanical Gardens have programs for the novices to the practiced pros. The classes bring education and fun to gardening, and can give you some pretty cool ideas too for your own!
For a unique family experience, the gardens hold Music in the Gardens over summer. These are an extra costs, but a great way to bring along a picnic dinner and listen to music is a novel way!
The festive season is another popular time of year at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens with the Christmas Garden of Lights. This popular tradition decorates a whopping 4 acres with beautiful lights ready to get you into the Christmas spirit! Kids under 12 are FREE too!
(If you're lucky, you might even get to meet Santa!)
If you want to learn more about the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, there are guided tours available by appointment. You can book for an individual or a group, so it's a great way for kids to learn that little bit more about nature and what they are experiencing around them!
See...you don't have to leave a city to get lost in nature. Just head for these botanical gardens and you will be just fine!
