About this activity

The Commissariat House Provincial Historic Site is a nineteenth century Georgian building constructed by the British Military Engineers to house both the office and residence of the Assistant Commissariat General. The designation includes the house, a reconstructed stable and the surrounding grounds. The house is situated within its original cultural landscape and stands at the center of the property.

Explore one of the finest Georgian architectures in the area. You can have a guided tour or explore the house on your own. You'll be able to see how it has been resorted and how it looked like in the 1830s when St John was alive. You'll discover nineteenth clothing, toys, games and more during your visit. Make your own shadow puppet and put on a shadown play for your family. They were really popular in the 1800s!

You can try your hand at writing with a quill and ink like they did back then and you can practice your handwriting! Finish your day with taking a walk around the grounds which include a 100 year old trees and even a kitchen garden! Remember to pick up a scavenger hunt from the front desk too and even try on a georgian period costume that will really transport you back to the times!
