Went there for some drinks on a quiet weekday. After sitting outside we were soon harassed by a member of staff to order drinks. We wanted to pay separately, which I understand can be annoying for them but the waitress was plain rude and refused to let us do so.

They also serve wine in champagne glasses (£5 for a 125 glass).

Staff are rude an just want you to spend, spend and spend.

I've been here a few times and been disappointed each time. The music always sounds good from the outside and the visible outdoor areas always seem busy.

Getting in is an absolute nightmare though. The first night we went the girl on the till insisted that it was £10 for girls and £20 for guys. I was about to launch into a rant about how this was illegal and is discrimination but noticed a large bouncer looking at me while I was handing over money. He was going to search me. He did, fair enough, but to an extent that would be expected by...Read More

TERRIBLE. Ludicrously expensive - often £20 entry, and £8.50 for a single spirit & mixer. Prices rise after 10pm, even on weekdays. Staff are made to fill drinks with ice in order to skimp on costs. Alcohol used is cheap and nasty. The free 'house shots' come from a bottle filled with 3/4 orange juice and 1/4vodka.
    Bouncers are racist and rude.
All of the staff are treated badly by the managers - the system is disorganised and the staff are made to feel like pieces of meat.
It is just a money-making scheme. Staff are pitifully paid and pay is...Read More

the next logical step for Cargo is to charge you £5 for someone to spit in your face, probably in between having been past the loathsome doormen and being forced to check all bags and coats into the cloakroom at a cost of £2 per item. In about 5 years it's gone from a bastion of many musical subcultures to the most cynical money-making machine around... if the owner wasn't buying all the decent venues in East London I'd looking on the bright side, but I'm not sure there is one...

Avoid Cargo at all cost. Last night we, and another 5 or 6 people lost our cloackroom tickets, and Cargo simply refused to help us retrieve our belongings! My girlfriend's bag contained her ID card so it would have been excruciatingly easy to just get the bag, and check her ID. Instead we had to wait until 6 o'clock in the morning.

When I asked the girl in the cloakroom gently, she told us she had been charged 200 quid by Cargo for having given something to a customer who didn't have a ticket, or something along those lines. I don't know what's...Read More

I was about to launch into a rant about how this was illegal and is discrimination but noticed a large bouncer looking at me while I was handing over money. He was going to search me. He did, fair enough, but to an extent that would be expected by US immigration, not by a bouncer at a private club.

Once inside you find a relatively large couple of rooms. But drinks are far too expensive and I would suggest insisting on "not too much ice" when ordering drinks. Also, the music at times was horrendous. I remember thinking I'm pretty sure I didn't pay £20 to listen to pop music. Hardly anything ground breaking and pretty boring to be honest.

When I first moved to London, Cargo had a reputation for playing slightly alternative music and was a friendly, cool place to go. It just hasn't lived up to this reputation on any occasion I have been. Especially in terms of friendly because of bouncers and bar staff. 3 attempts is enough for me.

I won't be returning.

It is just a money-making scheme. Staff are pitifully paid and pay is often late or withheld for no reason.
Last month, the entire bar staff quit at 1am on a Friday night (two hours before the venue closed) in protest at their treatment. This unfortunately made no difference as the owner just drafted in more staff from his other terrible bars in the area (The Shoreditch Bar Group).
Music is appalling. Atmosphere is tense and unfriendly.
DO NOT GO. There are so many other, better bars and clubs around this area.

When I asked the girl in the cloakroom gently, she told us she had been charged 200 quid by Cargo for having given something to a customer who didn't have a ticket, or something along those lines. I don't know what's worse: that she just lied for us to not even try getting our stuff back, or whether she truly got charged 200 pounds for returning an item to a customer.

The staff is completely overworked and overloaded for the vast quantity of guests. The bouncers are trigger happy idiots who love to barge through the crowd as if the guests are meat carcasses in a slaughter house.

Cargo is shit. The whole building needs to be torn down, turned to rubble, then fine dust, excavated, and then rebuilt from scratch by places that actually want to run good, enjoyable sociable nightclubs.

Dave, the manager in charge that night did help us in the end, and he seemed like quite a sensible chap, but he told me his hands are utterly tied by the owner of the place.

Earlier that night we ordered food also, and their 'angus steak burger' was the cheapest tesco's meat I have ever encountered.

Please avoid Cargo at all costs. It's an overpriced, overcrowded hell hole.
