Where are we going today?

Fun Mountain is the place for a fun family get-a-way, or to simply just splash the hours away. Take a break from sliding and try our tropical theme 18 hole Mini Golf course. Grab a friend and take a Bumper Boat ride on our man-made lake. There's something for everyone to have fun in the sun.

I loved Fun Mountain as a kid - 20 years ago. I went back with my kids this year and was unpleasantly surprised about a few things.

First of all, no outside food is allowed in. This is a policy that bothers me immensely as someone who tries to feed her family decently healthy food and decently priced food. There are picnic tables everywhere, so I know I'm not crazy for remembering that food used to be allowed in. But really, at the cost of entry, am I really going to buy my three kids an expensive canteen lunch? And isn't it a little lame...Read More

Our group got there fairly early (11:00 on a Sunday) so by the time line-ups had started we were pretty much done. I've got to say I was also impressed by the cleanliness of the park. Good times all around!

    Okay.
These watersides are amazing and fun, but really.
My brother went to fun mountain and there was an hour and a half lineup.
I think if they search our bags to make sure we don't have food, get better service.
    Or let us bring food.

My child is in grade 1 and spends much of the day on the little red slides, yet is charged full fees. Any child over 4 feet tall is charged adult rates. I think they just wanted to make back the diffenence from the coupon we used which allowed $3 off adult and/or child rates. Save your $20 and go to a free splash pad.

Fun Mountain is great! However, this is not where it is located. It is just east of where the south Perimeter meets Lagimodiere, on Murdock Road. Good luck finding it and have fun! (Correct directions and map at funmountain.ca.

And isn't it a little lame to have to walk out and eat on the grass outside the park, then come back in? I don't know, it seemed tacky and an unnecessary rule to me.

Second, the quality of the slides was quite disappointing. The seams between slide pieces hurt when we slid over them. One member of our group even sliced her heel on one of them. At $20 an adult and $16 a kid, it seems like they must be making some money. Why not just build it into the budget that one slide gets replaced every year. That would mean over 10 years the park gets fully uodated. Instead, they just provided foam mats to slide on - except not if you are going down together with a child. That just seemed like a half-hearted attempt to me.

And lastly, the lifeguards were marginal. If there were rules about exiting a pool after sliding, they were not well-enforced. Which meant that the pool at the bottom of the kiddie slides was packed with kids and tubes and I had very little confidence in the ability of the lifeguards to effectively keep an eye on the swimmers. With a 4-year-old and a two-year-old, I was glad one adult to child ratio was one-to-one. I sure wouldn't attempt it with any less adults than that at this age.

Anyway, despite my disappointment, we still had fun sliding. With Winnipeg's perpetual refusal to build an indoor waterpark, it just seems like the only outdoor one we have could be kept up a little better.
