About this activity

Copperbelt Railway and Mining Museum is an interpretive learning experiences that preserves and presents the Whitehorse Copperbelt mining history for the whole family to enjoy. The museum is just north of Whitehorse on the edge of the historic copper mining region. 

You can head out on a train ride through the northern boreal forests on a 2.5km track and marvel at the scenery around you. You've get a fascinating history lesson on northern mining, rail and life. There's also the beloved Loki ride which is a must for everyone! 

There's also a picnic pavilion and playground onsite too for the kids to enjoy too!

The museum is located in a rich copper bearing area with the copper deposutes first discovered in this area in 1897 as Golf Rush stampeders were making their way to Dawson. John Mcintyre stakes the first claim on July 6th 1898 and called it the Copper King.

The Copper belt is 30km long and extends from South Klondike and Aslaska Highways to the west of Porter Creek subdivision in the north of Whitehorse. 

The exhibits at the museum focus on copper mining around Whitehorse and the Pueblo Mine Disaster.
