If I could give it ZERO stars I would! Bowmanville Zoo has near-future plans to declaw their lion cubs, claiming "to ensure safety of their animals and keepers." Declawing is amputation of the first digits of the toes and in NO WAY ensures safety and benefits to the animal. It doesn’t ensure safety for the handlers either, since it is well documented that declawed cats (big and small) resort to biting and can be aggressive once declawed since they have lost their first line of defense. Declawing is mutation and subjects felines to a lifetime of...Read More

What a horrid place for animals! Google this zoo and you will see the numerous news articles about animal deaths and mistreatment. Most recently this zoo has allowed their summer student to take a lion cub HOME with him! (CBC news) What kind of professional place that claims to know about animals and their needs lets a summer student take a lion cub home with him to his apartment? One of their lions that was being rented out for a commercial, (yup, they rent out their animals to make more money off them) attacked the actor to their surprise. I'm...Read More

Declawing cripples cats. What an inhumane zoo! I would never visit this place because if you do you are basically supporting the cruelty of beautiful animals! All cats, big & small, were made to have claws. Please boycott this zoo.

Way too over-priced. The cats' cages are so small, and the wolves look sickly. The kids loved feeding the goats and llamas, and the new splash pad is nice. But $100+ just for 2 adults and 2 kids is a little ridiculous.

Declawing is mutation and subjects felines to a lifetime of horrific crippling pain, arthritis and lameness. To the reviewers claiming Bowmanville is a wonder place, how is that so knowing this? I do not need to patronize this zoo to know that Bowmanville does not care for its animals if they practice declawing.
For more information on the devastating effects of declawing, begin by watching 'The Paw Project' documentary: available through the org’s website or now on Netflix, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Instant Video.

One of their lions that was being rented out for a commercial, (yup, they rent out their animals to make more money off them) attacked the actor to their surprise. I'm not surprised. They are WILD animals and should be RESPECTED, not treated as "pets". You can google that video too. It doesn't take much to imagine how they punished that lion for the attack (batons visible in the video).
