About this activity

If you want to visit somewhere in the world which can truly be described as wildly beautiful then Auyuittuq National Park might be the adventure you are looking for. Found in Nunavut, the most common way to arrive into the park is a 30 minute boat ride from Pangnirtung. There are plenty of places listed in the Angmarlik Visitor Center.

The journey, however, will certainly be worth it! Most people choose to ski, climb or hike within the park, so it really is for adventurous families who LOVE the great outdoors!

Sweeping glaciers and polar sea ice meet jagged granite mountains in Auyuittuq National Park.

It was established in 1976, and Auyuittuq - an Inuktitut word meaning "land that never melts" - protects 19,089 kmof glacier-scoured terrain.

Located in the eastern Arctic, on southern Baffin Island, the park includes the highest peaks of the Canadian Shield, the Penny Ice Cap, marine shorelines along coastal fiords, and Akshayuk Pass, a traditional travel corridor used by the Inuit for thousands of years.

The zig-zag skyline of those craggy granite peaks is certainly something you won't want to miss! Watch out for the wildlife too, including narwhal, Arctic foxes and ringed seals! A true Arctic experience!

Whether you wish to climb Auyuittuq's rugged peaks, ski on its pristine icefields, or hike the scenic Akshayuk Pass, this park offers unique opportunities to experience the beauty and majesty of the Arctic.
