Where are we going today?

Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park Zoo is one of Canada's best, a collection of 1250 animals belonging to 300 species, many now threatened with extinction. Special emphasis is given to creatures of the northern latitudes (many of which are indigenous to Canada though there are also some rare exotic species

We were surprised by the volume of empty enclosures and areas still under construction. Customer service at vendors could use improvement - also the overall experience was very expensive for a family of four. I left feeling that I just paid a premium price for an incomplete experience. I agree with the previous poster - save your money - better used to have a family picnic near the awesome new children's playground just outside the zoo., or walk/ride through the park!

I am writing a negative review not perse as to the the zoo experience but as to the fact that it is NOT AFFORDABLE at all for the average family. A family of four is paying about 60 dollars. I remember when I was a kid it was free! Being that unfortunetely there is little for a family to do in Winnipeg, this zoo should be affordable. Thanks for the expansion and renovations, but not worth it if it rips the pockets out of the average family. Even a tourist will be upset by this expense. I thought the donor's took care of the new projects? ...Read More

The Zoo appears to be in a major transition phase - from a world zoo to Manitoban zoo. Compared to 10 years and more ago there are about 10% of the animals in residence and the majority of the facilities are in very poor conditions. I went with my kids and young grandkids and can say that it was not a very enjoyable day (other than the fact that we were all out together in the sunshine). When the prairie dogs running around loose are the highlight of the visit you know you didn't get your money's worth. I have been to the zoo dozens of times over...Read More

I like this zoo the only thing that I noticed that in the fall there are hardly any animals there were lions and tigers and more in the summer there are more animals outside

I thought the donor's took care of the new projects? I guess not enough. Please work to make more afffordable, because even still the changes are seemingly minimal.

When the prairie dogs running around loose are the highlight of the visit you know you didn't get your money's worth. I have been to the zoo dozens of times over the years and it is deteriorating quickly. I can only assume that, as I mentioned at the start, that it is in a phase of eliminating the former Zoo in favour of a local habitat facility. Even if the Zoo had free admission these days it would not be worth it. And by the way, there is no way the new exhibit will be ready for July 3, 2014 as advertised - maybe by 2015 but right now it is not much more than a hole in the ground. Save your money.
