About this activity

Toot toot - all aboard the Sydney Tramway Museum! There is plenty of history to be learned, and fun to be had, so grab your seats kids, because the fun is about the begin!

The Sydney Tramway Museum is where you can take a step back in time, and enjoy a fun day out with the whole family. This unique attraction is not only a great learning experience for kids, but it's also hands-on fun too - and yes, that includes a tram ride!

Did you know that trams were an incredibly important part of life in Sydney until 1961? In fact, they were an important part for over 80 years - much like in Melbourne today!

So now, you can experience that history first hand! The museum houses a HUGE selection of Sydney trams, so you can see them up close, and really feel the history and stories that they must have.

You can even see a host of trams that have been collected from all over the world, including San Francisco, Munich, Milan, and Nagasaki! Of course, there are trams from Adelaide, Ballarat and Bendigo too - so it keeps it close to home too!

We did say there was a tram ride involved, and we weren't kidding! Just grab your ticket from the conductor, and head along 4km of track and feel the history come to life!

Make sure you spend time looking at the collections, and stopping to see the oldest operating electric tram in the country, that dates back to 1896 - that's a pretty historic tram!

Kids can get behind the controls, or just take a seat on board. There is lots of memorabilia too, from the former Sydney system, so lots to look at!

Now kids, do you have your ticket, because the family day out is about to start!
