About this activity

If you want to introduce your kids to culture, art and design, then the Sturt Craft Centre is a great place to start!

The Sturt Craft Centre is actually Australia's oldest craft centre - pretty impressive! It was established all the way back in 1941, and is now the place where they promote and teach all about Australian contemporary craft and design.

The Sturt Gallery is a great place of changing exhibition where kids can really begin to appreciate art. It's more suited to the older children, especially ones who study and love art and crafts.

The Sturt Collection is always worth a visit too, with certain open dates to the public across the year.

There are permanent collections and exhibits on display, which are eclectically artistic and will entertain most children, plus travelling exhibits help keep things fresh.

The Sturt Craft Centre also have events such as poetry reading nights, which are always a great experience for those kids who show an interest in culture and art.

The gardens are scattered with authentic looking period buildings offering insight into trade crafts such as weaving, wood work, jewellery and pottery studios, with workshops often available to learn them.

Certainly if you are in the area why not check out this cultural and impressive collection. You never know - the children might be inspired to create their own!
