Paronella Park Mena Creek
Where are we going today?
Everyone has a dream but not everyone’s dreams are fulfilled. Jose Paronella’s dream was to build a castle; he chose a special part of Australia and created Paronella Park. On 5 Hectares beside Mena Creek Falls he built his castle, picnic area by the falls, tennis courts, bridges, a tunnel, and wrapped it up in an amazing range of 7,500 tropical plants and trees (now a lush rainforest!). It opened to the public in 1935.
Paronella Park has received multiple Queensland tourism awards, is State and National Heritage listed and is a National Trust listed property. It is privately owned and operated and Eco accredited. Paronella Park is the site of Queensland’s 1st privately owned hydro electric plant (1933).
There are several tours and you can choose suitability for your kids' age group, but the night ones are truly a treat if they can stay up! They also offer a boutique caravan and camping grounds, a cafe with fresh local produce and much more.

What a great place to visit! Stayed overnight in the caravan park and did the night tour as well, enjoyed the falls and the devonshire tea, and they even looked after our dog for us as we walked around.

Wow what a wonderful day and night we spent at Paronella Park, Being in the wet tropics we did get very wet but it added to the feel of this beautiful place. From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful, we were greeted at the gate by a young man, Liam, who was friendly and informative, he directed us to our overnight camp site and assisted us with information on check-in. We settled in and then decided to have lunch at the Mena Creek Hotel, a great experience. We then went for a self guided tour of Paronella Park. The park...Read More

The experience was magical. The vision the creator had was exceptional. We stayed the night in the caravan park and enjoyed the night tour with our Asian guide. The staff were extremely welcoming and offered to look after our dogs while we looked around. The price of entry was included in our overnight fees. I would recommend the park to everyone. Truly breathtaking. We will come again years later to see how they are progressing.

The park is just fasinating, new things to see at every turn. Beautiful gardens, turtles and fish in the ponds, thundering waterfalls and gentle little streams. The ruins are a photographers delight, beautiful old buildings, lovely fountains and amazing plants in very old pots. The Grand stairway is a wonderful enterance to this entrancing place. We decided on a guided night tour and were more than delighted with the guide and the beautifully lit ruins, and the fountain was tranquil in the night light. I would highly recommend a tour of the park, we found the staff to be very informative, friendly and always ready to assist. Paronella Park is a must see if you are travelling in North Queensland.
