Directions

Your journey into the underground (and we don't mean the London Tube!) begins at 4655 Jenolan Caves Road, NSW 2790. From Sydney, follow signs towards the blue Mountains. Pass Katoomba, then at Hartley make a left at the Jenolan Caves turn off. Note, the last section of the road is narrow and is not suitable for caravans.

Where are we going today?

How old are you?  Right....now add 340 million years to that, and you have the age of Jenolan Caves.  That's a lot of birthday cake!

Jenolan Caves are the WORLDS oldest show caves, with 11 incredible cave tours available for you and your family to adventure through.  It's not as tough as it sounds either - the tours are graded for different degrees of fitness and difficulty, and suitable for all ages, so the whole family can enjoy this incredible experience together.

Meander through the huge stalactites lowering themselves from the cave roof above, and wind past the mighty stalagmites as they seemingly pierce the ground.

Fancy something slightly different - take one of their night tours! On all days except Sunday you can experience the caves from a slightly different point of view.

If you want something a bit more adventurous, try the super fun Adventure Caving.  Squeeze, crawl and climb through amazing winding passageways, with only the glow of your headlamp to show you the way.  Exciting!  Mainly suitable for kids over 8 years of age (or the really super brave!)

If its school holiday season, bring your kids aged 7 -11 as they run tours specifically for those ages, so ensure they can participate in fun and educational tours designed just for them - including the Bats, Bugs and Beasties tour where they can experience the cool creatures that hang out down in the depths around you.  Wait...whats that!? Oh...its just a BAT!

Not only can you take a tour through the caves, but you can enjoy a fun musical concert in there too!  How many of your friends have sat and watched a concert deep underground?  We bet not many!  Keep an eye out for the listings so you don't miss out.

Any Top Tips?

If you want to experience a self-guided tour, you must also purchase a guided show cave tour. With this ticket, you will receive a complimentary self-guided ticket. Make sure you don't touch anything either! It's very important that visitors in the next 340 million years would like to visit and see the same marvels that you are!.

Need a little extra help?

There is disabled parking next to the Guides Office, with two spaces available. Behind Caves House there is one available space. You should also note that there are 30 steps down into Carey's Cave. After this, there are only occasional steps between fairly level pathways. The paths and steps are quite easy for anyone who is reasonably mobile..

Over the years I've been through many caves, and most recently did the Chifley Cave. It was a 1 hour guided tour for $32 which was great value. While this wasn't the most spectacular cave I've experienced, the crystals are still incredible and it's hard to believe they've been there for so many millions of years. The disco lights are hilarious! It's around 16'c in the caves so bring a jumper. Well worth wandering around to the blue lake afterwards too.

Absolutely amazing spot and a definite must-see for travellers. I was stunned when I went to the Jenolan Caves as I had heard about these caves before but I never expected them to be that beautiful. We did the self-guided tour and two guided tours (Orient cave and River cave tour) in one day and I still didn't have enough. Amazing crystals and very knowledgeable guides, I think it's worth every cent! The surroundings are gorgeous as well and I loved the lake nearby where you can watch platypus in the afternoon (when lucky!).

A great day out or overnight experience.
Beautiful location and a perfect getaway for a winter weekend.
Not much choice from the fast food on offer, nor is the coffee worth mentioning.
The location and cave tours however is what makes this place a great experience!
