About this activity

Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters is a unique, fully interactive aquarium experience located in Port Stephens, NSW. Visitors will experience ocean life in a new and exciting way, by meeting hundreds of magnificent sharks and rays, up close and personal. It’s an opportunity for each and every guest to connect with the natural world.

During a guided tour, guests will learn about a huge variety of shark and ray species and their importance to our oceans. You can embark on your journey into their world from either within the water with the animals (wading or snorkeling) or from the water’s edge. Either way, there are many opportunities to feed and interact with these mysterious creatures during your visit.Wetsuits, water socks and snorkel gear are provided for those adventurous souls who choose to go into the water. If you’re not keen on getting wet you can choose to wade in the shallows and interact with our fascinating animals whilst staying dry.

There is an encounter for any age or experience level, starting at the babies in the nursery, all the way up to our biggest sharks Gigantor who weighs over 200kg!

At Irukandji, we are dedicated to ocean conservation. Irukandji is dedicated to spreading awareness and making a difference for aquatic life through display, interaction, communication, education, research and action.

Our ultimate goal is to dedicate our existence to conserving the ocean, its wild life, its natural systems and in turn conserve the Earths life source. Our grand mission has a dedicated team behind it, some of them are staff, some volunteer their time to the cause and some consist of the many thousands of people who walk away making some small changes to their local area/lives/planet as a result of all they experience here. However small the action is it is a meaningful one and every tiny bit counts. During your time at Irukandji we hope to fill you with information and motivation to make some small changes in your lives that will make a difference towards saving our planet’s most important resource, our oceans.
