About this activity

Part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, the Hastings Cave State Reserve is an incredible experience for those families who love the outdoors, nature, and a little bit of adventure.

This incredible part of Tasmanian wilderness is home to a number of experiences that the whole family can enjoy.

It's best to start your adventure at the Visitor Centre. Here, you can pick up your cave tour tickets as well as your entry to the pool, and really learn about the area through it's displays. Kids will love reading all about the features they are about to see!

How about relaxing in the warm waters of the natural thermal springs pool? Nothing like a quick dip when it's getting a bit hot! These are located near the Visitor Centre, and to get there you get to enjoy a beautiful walk through the forest.

For those who love to get their walking shoes on, there are plenty of rich forests for you to explore too. And ready for that adventure? Try out the Newdegate Cave!

This was named after Sir Francis Newdegate, who was actually the Governor of the state from 1917 to 1920. Here's a fun fact for you. The cave is actually the LARGEST tourist cave in the whole of the country that is dolomite rather than limestone! That's pretty impressive.

The chambers started forming tens of millions of years ago, so it's an incredible look at nature AND history!

There are guided tours through the cave, so qualified staff will be able to introduce you to all of the fauna, history, geology and unique features of the cave. These yours are around 45 minutes.

Nature is waiting for you at Hastings Cave State Reserve - a part of Tasmania not to be missed!
