About this activity

Gemtree is the gateway to the ancient gem fields of Central Australia. Experience the thrill of fossicking for your own gems, hidden by mother nature for millions of years!

Tag-Along Garnet and Zircon Fossicking Tour: Join fellow fossickers on our tag-along tours in the search for rich red garnets and the renowned Mud Tank zircons. Departure time from March to October is 8.30am.(Sometimes earlier if the weather is too hot). Tour inclues hire of equipment; experienced guide to show you how and where to fossick successfully; and the appraisal of the stones you have collected on your return.

For those with a time constraint, there are buckets of garnet bearing gravel brought in from their private garnet lease, that can be fossicked right here at the park, the perfect way to have a 'taste' of the fossicking experience instead of going out to the gem fields. The treasures from your bucket will also be appraised and sorted so you know just what you have!

And "Garnet Gully" has proved a popular spot for the children especially in school holiday time. Situated right here at the caravan park for a fun family activity, you can fill your bucket and sieve through to search for a variety of Harts Range minerals, gems and crystals. While you will not find gem quality stones here there will be plenty of interesting specimens for budding junior gemologists to get started on their very own collection.
