About this activity

There is something great about the whole family getting out of the house and into nature, and when in Australia  - we can't imagine anything better!

Dorrigo National Park has stunning scenery that the kids will just love viewing, exploring and playing in. It's been millions of years in the making - so a great way for them to learn about nature and the planet's history!

The park contains a huge range of forest types which are home to a huge number of animals and birds.  Do you know what a red-necked pademelon looks like? Only one way to find out! (And no, it's not a fruit that we eat!) You might also spot the incredibly coloured wompoo fruit-dove (cool name!) and the bowerbird. We all know what they sound like!

The park is a great daytrip from Coffs Harbour, and you can spend your time birdwatching (gotta find that pademelon!), or you can relax at a scenic picnic area and BBQ spots for lunch. There are (shhhh) secret waterfalls, as well as rainforest walks. The views from the elevated walk are incredible, and kids can actually see from the forest all the way to the ocean!

The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is home to interesting interactive displays which can guide every family member, no matter what age, through the various aspects of this World Heritage listed rainforest.

It is also the starting point of the Skywalk! Here you can experience a birds eye view from the look out, and you are perched on the very edge! You will see the whole park and the Bellinger Valley, right to the coast. Have a look how the landscape has been sculpted and folded into the various hills, gorges, and slopes. Try and look right into the rainforest canopy too! It's pretty incredible! What can you see?

A fascinating nature filled day for the nature loving family!
