About this activity

For kids who learn history, yes they can grab those history books and read for hours, scouring the pages of dates and names. But if you REALLY want to learn history in a fun and fascinating way, why not head to a museum where they can truly be immersed in it!

The Defence of Darwin Experience at Darwin Military Museum offers families an immersive, interactive, and multimedia experience, that can tell you all about the story of Darwin's role in World War II.

The exhibits, and the layout of the museum ensure that all of the material is offered to kids in a compelling, and accessible manner for them to understand what they are looking at. For younger kids in the family, whilst the information might be above them, they will still be amazed at the artifacts, and the unusual equipment that are on display.

The exhibition space includes the Bombing of Darwin Gallery, and you can actually come face to face with iconic objects from that time. The Darwin Military Museum also has first hand accounts of what life was like during the war, so you can really gain a deeper understanding of the history.

Plus, there is a great range of inspiring anecdotal history to capture the moods of the time to help children imagine.

Make sure you step outside of the museum to check out some amazing historical exhibits too! You can see artillery pieces; vehicles, uniforms, firearms, models and paintings and much more!

The Darwin Military Museum, while focused on WWII, is proud to highlight the complete military history of the north of the continent, so as educational trips go this one has plenty of scope.

History is waiting!
