About this activity

The adventure begins for kids in just getting to Cockatoo Island: take a daily Harbour City Ferry from Circular Quay or Darling Harbour, or by water taxi if you like it easy, but you're also permitted to journey across on your own kayaks!

You might think the adventures top there, but they don't!

Once you arrive, head to the visitor centre, and there you can pick up one of two challenge packs, that will take you on those famous Cockatoo Island Challenge Trails!

Aimed at kids from 7 to 12 years, (younger kids might need assistance) there is the Convict Clues Challenge, and the Ship Shape Challenge to choose from. Each will not only challenge the kids, but teach them about the island, and history!

What a way to learn!

The Convict Clues Challenge let's kids discover what life was really like on the island's notorious convict prison. Along the way, they will uncover new pieces of information at different stops, learn more history, and then find the answer to the secret convict questions!

Then, there is the Ship Shape Challenge, where they can learn all about the former shipyard, as they explore the machinery and the building that still stand on Cockatoo Island to this day.

Both packages include pull out maps too!

So why not explore Cockatoo Island in a new and unique way - and uncover some amazing history at the same time!
